Tourist or Traveler?

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

So why do I travel like this? One reason is we have limited time here, and in this time I can’t decide who I can live like, a university girl in Mumbai, work in a cute cafe in the mountains girl, move to Goa and live by the beach girl, building home all by myself where I can ask neighbors for spare windows girl, so I decided to be all of them! But hold up, the typical vacation routine with fancy hotels and umbrella drinks isn't the magic potion for this life concoction. Nope, here's the real recipe for cooking up some serious travel tales:

Wrap your head around this nifty idea-

There are many websites like Worldpackers or Workaway that will introduce you to the concept of Hosts and Volunteers. You pick a spot on the map, scout for hosts there, snoop around their profiles and look what kinda help they need. They usually offer good food, a decent stay, lots of love, and moments you won’t ever forget in exchange for your 25 hoursw weekly ninja skills.

I want to say that you won’t realize when you’ll have another family but honestly, you will! You have to respect them and their way of living genuinely, which by the way, should be a mandatory subject at school. Seriously, not all of us got that memo. But certainly what you won’t realize is how humanitarian and wise you’ve become. That 75-liter rucksack you're lugging around? It's not just a backpack; it's a treasure trove of experience and stories. Think about it: two months, countless local buses, and an assortment of folks who are as random as a cat's choice of nap spots. That's like a Ph.D. in street smarts and cultural wizardry.

Of course, budget crunches played a starring role in this wild experience where I didn’t know where and at whose place I was heading next. I mean, let's be real, my internships didn't pay in golden tickets to Zurich. So, I became my own one-person circus, slashing out stays and meals from my expense list to be on my own (not commenting on people with millionaire parents), the locals become your friends and take you to the most amazing places by themselves.

In a world where a 75-liter rucksack becomes your greatest companion and strangers become lifelong pals, the real journey isn't just about hopping on planes—it's about hopping into lives and tales that turn you into the wise, well-traveled sage you were always meant to be.
